Quite, it was in the official consultants project reports and was examined again when the corrosion was discovered. The corrosion turned out to be a mixture of pollutants in the water, salt, and bacteria

I suppose Belgian water is required to make Belgian beer. The underground river is in the limestone beds which, from Southeast Wales / Forest of Dean, dip under the Severn Estuary and rise again on the English side. I believe the river has multiple sources on the Welsh side and that attempts were made to block a number of stream sinks during the tunnel's construction.
