Probably aimed at Craig more than anyone really but later this week Dad and I will be 'oop norf' and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good photting locations on the S&C. We have a car so travel isn't an issue.

Thanks in advance :)

Location
Newcastle
Here's some of the photos I've taken. The times in brackets are when I reckon they're best for photos.
There's some other locations worth looking at that I've not been to, I'll dig out some stuff for those tomorrow if I get time.

Garsdale - map

Looking south from the station (morning/no sun).

Looking north from a hill just north of the station (morning/early afternoon) IIRC you go up the road next to the SB platform, over a wall and across a little stream. Don't be tempted to take the shortcut off the end of the platform.

Looking south from where the road goes under the railway north of the station (late afternoon)

Lazonby - map (this is too far north for the Gypsum trains)

Just south of the village - a field next to the B6412 (afternoon)

Not quite on the S&C itself but Hellifield isn't bad - mound around 1/4 mile north of the station gives a good view of northbound traffic, and the A65 road bridge gives a vew both ways, both decent around lunchtime/early afternoon.

Further north there's Riblehead viaduct itself and theres a decent pub there which did food too on my last visit. Ais Gill summit is reasonable in the afternoon (you can pretty much sit in the car there). I've not ventured much further north linesiding.

Also worth considering for a morning (c0s of the sun), and not too far from the S&C is Low Gill on the WCML, a few north of Oxenholme. There are a few shots from there on this page: http://http://picsbysteve.photos.gb.com/c1113755.html
