My longest journey end to end was in December 1996 from Toronto to Vancouver across Canada which took nearly 3 days.

I have done too many end to end journeys to list. Here are a few closed lines I travelled over -

With nearly 60 years of rail travel behind me, including 2 All Line Rail Rovers and a number of regional rovers my list is rather long. However two of note, which come from my attempts to travel on TPO's with passenger accommodation are: Nottingham to Glasgow in an attempt to recreate the days of the Thames-Clyde express I started that journey at St Pancras. The second is Peterborough - Liverpool Street via Ipswich.

However my most memorable end to end was a more recent railtour: Liverpool Street - Liverpool Street via Bury St Edmunds, hauled by Britannia. It was on that trip I managed to get a picture of 70000 along with a Cl70 diesel in the same shot.

I did Waterloo to Plymouth using a SWT free weekend travel ticket straight after working a night shift. I was so tired when I got there that I just took a few photos of Class 67s in the station and returned to Waterloo on the same train!
Other slightly unusual ones include Harwich International to Cambridge on a Class 150, an early morning Gatwick to Newcastle, and the SWT Brighton to Reading service.

The only ones I've done are London St Pancras to Sheffield, once a peaktime express from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge which didn't go to Cambridge North and the TER from Quimper to Nantes. Saturday will add Bristol TM to Manchester Piccadilly and the Windermere Branch.

I’ve just remembered. Back in February I did an Avanti service Euston to Chester. It was a positioning move so I could clear the Chester to Stockport line.
i also did Altringham to Bury on the Metrolink that day to clear the Altringham line.

I thought of this thread yesterday when I made a couple of bookings, I'm glad it isn't locked!

My Heart of Wales end-to-end from Swansea to Shrewsbury recently was almost derailed by a late arrival from Paddington on the day of the GSMR outage. TfW staff at Swansea were brilliant and proactive in making annoucements for HoW passengers and offering taxis. A taxi to Shrewsbury wasn't the plan, nor was the much faster Manchester service two hours later, so I politely declined, went for a Wetherspoons curry, and came back two hours later for the next! Thoroughly enjoyed it.

During the Purley bridge disruption last month I added a completely unplanned Portsmouth Harbour-Waterloo.

Now added a couple of itineraries to tick off some end-to-ends, roundabout routes for places I need to go anyway.

Liverpool-Norwich was looking a bit dear for the date I needed, so I will shelve it for now, but I did manage to throw in a Lancaster-Leeds along the Bentham line (it's one of the hours when it doesn't originate at Morecambe).

I once did Carstairs to Waverley on a service that started at Carstairs, rather than being a portion. We had to bale off the Glasgow-bound service, trudge through the snow across the platform, and board our connecting train.

Interesting finding this thread, lots of great journeys which has got me thinking. From what I can find, I think these are my longest on a service from end to end.

GB
Euston - Glasgow Central (643km/399 miles), various Caledonian Sleeper services over the years.

International
Hamburg Altona - Passau Hbf (1144km/710 miles, according to the Thomas Cook from the time). Undertaken in June 2005 on the old overnight IC2021 in just under 12 hours!

Funnily I travelled on CNL40319 from Amsterdam CS - Zürich HB in 2007 and thought it would be longer, but it looks like it's *only* 860km/535 miles.
