Seat Reservations on-line

This week TransPennine seem to have removed the option for seat reservations from their website. Accordingly, and annoyingly, I also lost the record of my future reservations. Anyone know if this is permanent and whether there are other websites that offer this? GWR used to, but that also seems to have gone. The LNER offer is simply for LNER route trains.

I am not aware of any other web options (though someone else may be)... Although I think most TOCs will reserve seats by message through X (and maybe WhatsApp?), so if no ticket office is handy, that may be an option?

Another nice bit of functionality removed to make things unaccountably worse.

How does one make these? I downloaded the app and had a quick look during my break but nothing jumped out immediately at me.
From the menu, go to "Seat and Bike reservations" that will bring up a journey planner that allows you to choose a service, basic seating prefs and then to book

Have a look through your emails. They will have sent you email confirmation of any reservations made too.

Does GWR still offer standalone reservations on their website?

Yes.

It was briefly unavailable when they cocked up and issued e-tickets with each reservation that would operate barriers.

The 'Seat and bike reservation' section still appears to exist in the TPE app.
(From the 'Menu' at the bottom right hand side.)

Agreed, especially for holders of flexible tickets when plans change
The question I have for you is how many people reserved seats on many trains just in case thus preventing actually travellers from using the train. If the answer is zero then fine otherwise one reservation per ticket via the company seems a good plan.

Or in some cases reserve the seat next to them to try and avoid someone sitting next to them. Even going as far to lie when someone boards at an intermediate station and seeing an empty seat reserved from Edinburgh to London and asks if it's available with 'someone is sitting there, they have gone to the toilet/buffet'.

I would have more sympathy for this position if there weren't so many trains with fake mandatory reservations that force people to get reservations even when they don't want them. Or if the industry offered an easy way to change reservations or cancel them.

I've cancelled a reservation made through the LNER app for an LNER train I wasn't able to use. It wasn't difficult to do.

That is unfortunately fairly useless for me since I rarely travel on LNER. I really meant a whole industry system since the reservations system is TOC agnostic...

Avanti trains in particular I have been forced to make many reservations on trains I had no intention of travelling on (one because the mandatory reservations on one of my split legs were full and unsurprisingly the train was half empty). Afaict there was no way for me to cancel these online.
