Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has said.
The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.
His acting career spanned decades and his many awards included an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes.
Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.

He was largely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running franchise, often being named as such in polls.
His Oscar came in 1988, when he was named best supporting actor for his role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables.
He was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000.
In August, he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Actually really sad to hear this. What a legend.

My favourite performance from him was in the 3rd Indiana Jones film. He helped make that my favourite film out of the original trilogy.

There’s not many celebrities I care that much about, but I’m really sad to hear this.

It was sad to hear of his passing and he undoubtedly played a large part in the Bond films' success, in which I always think of him as the best. The plaudits that Nicola Sturgeon gave: " one of the world's most accomplished actors" is possibly a bit over the top, - yes he took on may characters apart from Bond, e.g Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírezin in Highlander, and William von Baskerville in The Name Of The Rose, but so unique was his accent that he always looked like he was playing Sean Connery.

The Hill - bleak, gritty and brutal. The monochrome film only adds to the feeling of despair.

The Offence - some brilliant scenes, particularly the police interrogation scenes with Ian Bannen.

The Rock - just a typical fast paced 90s action film with Connery giving as good as he gets as an aging SAS man.

The Untouchables - everything about this film was great.

The Last Crusade - just a fun film - some great scenes between Connery & Harrison Ford.

The First Great Train Robbery - a good period film with some nice action sequences.

Hell Drivers - a very early appearance from Connery in 1957. Stanley Baker is the leading role along with a host of top British acting talent (including Connery).

Like all good actors, Connery did the odd turkey too, such as Never Say Never Again - the 'unofficial' bond film. Connery was only 52 when this was recorded, but he looks like a pensioner trying to behave like someone half of his age. The story is just a rehash of Thunderball. This should 'Never' have been made.

I'd like to add "The Man Who Would Be King" to that list. Brilliant story with another fantastic actor (alongside Connery) in the shape of Michael Caine

I'd like to add "Zardoz" (1974, dir. John Boorman) to the list... often appears on lists of "so bad it's good" movies and is definitely an interesting watch. Weird though it is, Connery was obviously committed to the role and gave it everything he had.

Another forgotten film was Tarzans Greatest Adventure from 1959. Connery plays a drunken trigger happy thug who lasts until about half way through the film before apeman Gordon Scott puts an arrow through his chest. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea - it is regarded as one of the best out of the Tarzan franchise. Rumour has it, they had Connery in line to play Tarzan but he was already in consultation with Broccoli & Saltzman by then to do Dr No.
