I have been told that the former 75ton Derby Brakedown crane ADRC 96706 that was at the Churnet valley was scrapped in September due to the amount of damage created by scrap thieves.
It was not practical or finacially possible to repair the damage done.
Its not just in South Africa or Eastern Europe that this is happenning.
Is this the first case in the UK, though, of something having to be scrapped due to the damage caused?
Does it raise a query on the state of security at our railway sites?
