Hi all, I am interested in this trip (https://www.railwaytouring.net/the-buxton-spa-express) mainly for the Hindlow quarry excursion. I would take a chance and either pick it up at Manchester Victoria or chase it to Buxton. Does anyone have any experience with paying on the day on RTC tours? Is it cash only? And do they offer any sort of discount on the day for filling up empty seats? Presumably they wouldn’t be charging full fare from Buxton!

Why not? It depends what they feel the market would pay, and the value of going to Hindlow and back, which is a rare trip for a steam engine, not to mention also the opportunity to get both steam and diesel haulage.

Definitely cash only to a steward, rather than bothering the guard(as he will be busy). As for the fare, they could charge you the full fare for the day. And have done before to some people. If it's mega Ching they could ask you to pay or leave the train at the next stop.

Does anyone know if these timings are definitely correct?

Sitting down at Denton for an hour?

Edit - found an article from a previous trip where someone says it stops for water at Denton. :)

I saw it leaving Victoria (from where they wanted full whack). Now racing it to Buxton on Northern for the quarry trip (£30 I was quoted).
