Rover Pricing disparity

Im aware there probably something im missing with this but whilst looking for some trips to do with my disabled father I was thinking of doing the North East round robin

However that looks pricey for the other adults who may want to come and wont have any railcards

But then i looked and saw this ticket North Country Rover which offers a larger area and more days validity for not much more, even if it was just me and him with the Disabled RC - we could even make a wee trip out of it.
But my main question is why is the first one so expensive for just a day and basically a loop?

The Rover is almost double the cost. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't describe that as not much more!

I don't know if there's any particular reason, but I would guess most people wouldn't do as much travelling on the Rover per-day than on the Round Robin would encourage you to do in one day?

Others might be time-limited to one day, and it makes it a good day-trip price where buying the rover and binning 2 days would be rather expensive in comparison.

I don't think it's much dissimilar to a period return sometimes costing only a little more than a day return, but giving you a whole month to return while breaking your journey.

Considering that the anytime day single from Leeds to Newcastle is about £7 more expensive than the round robin, I would suggest there’s not much of a price anomaly there. Multi day tickets get relatively cheaper because only the diehard will max out travel on them for the entire validity. Most of those who would are probably on here!

Well the cost of the rover works aout about £30 per day And has more places and routes to follow so works out even better value

Im not even looking to max out validity but with a much wider area to travel too it certainly makes it much better value at circa £30 per day rather than £80

It’s better value if you can use all (most of) the days. If you’ve only got one then it probably isn’t.

That "North Country Rover" does look rather good. It covers a number of lines I quite fancy doing.

I was looking at an itinerary involving the Settle & Carlisle and a visit to Ravenglass before the tunnel flooded.

Once it's mended I'll be looking at doing it again and this ticket might be good for that and a few other places I fancy going to.

Depending on where else you want to go, there is also the North West Rover which includes those lines.
