Returning to OO model trains

I have recently to get into model trains again after a pay to sub about 30 years, specifically OO gauge.

I’ve had a look on the Hornby, Lima and a couple of other websites, and settled on the GWR HST power car, dummy and carriage.

I seem to remember, in the past, all the HST sets had two carriages. Is reducing them to one carriage an alternative to raising the price, or is it some sort of incentive to buy extra carriages on the site?

I would’ve done this, but they don’t seem to have any GWR carriages in OO gauge on any of the sites have looked at.

Are fairs and open days generally a good place to pick up second hand stuff?

I expect reducing to one coach was to keep costs down.
Seem to remember that these coaches were in the ‘bargain bins’ recently, so have all been sold off.
ebay is probably the easiest place to find them, however at trade fairs you may be able to find them cheaper.

Model Railway Shows usually have dealers both selling new stock and "pre-used" items which may serve your needs. You can usually find a list of shows in the model railway press or indeed shops selling such items 'on-line' if there are no shows near you.

Theres been big changes in manufacturers in the last 30 years
Lima no longer exist and their toolings are owned by Hornby largely to be found in the Hornby Railroad range.

These Hornby GWR HST's are actually the ex.Lima tooling, so just get some Lima blue / grey bodies and swap them over...lots of choice of s/h coaches then, and you will get £30 for the GWR bodies on ebay
