Are these peak time split trains fully doo or do they have an OBS, also originally from what I remember a conductor was only onboard from redhill to reigate but on the off peak reigate services they board at East Croydon, is there a reason for this change?
The off-peak services from London to Reigate have, I think, always been DOO north of East Croydon, with guard or OBS south, ever since they were introduced around 2008.
I have always considered that this is because they were essentially a diversion of former metro services to Tattenham Corner that had been DOO throughout, and therefore between London and East Croydon didn't represent an extension of DOO.
By that measure, peak services should then be OBS throughout because they are a legacy of outer suburban workings historically run using slam door stock. These being DOO north of Redhill would constitute extension of DOO relative to the historical norm.
