Its cursed... Stay away.
So today fGW put it on the 0717 Paignton-Paddngton that i happened to be booked first class as far as Bristol for a very tight connection to a train to Cardiff. So i arrive and think, great, i can sample the new set. I buy my tickets (as you do
) and jump on coach H. 43092 at the front. I take a seat and am unpleasently surprised at how hard the seats were. Other than that i think they did a sterling job in FC. Same apples to Standard class, nice enough seats and excellent leg room! Shame about the lack of table but the drop down tables were plenty big enough. Lighting wasn't as bad as you may expect. Everything looks nice and new and well presented. Well done fGW!
We then leave on time and are early into Newton Abbot with visible smoke from the MTU! Sound was fairly loud too! We leave Dawlish 2 mins late but are early into Exeter. We get the green, driver gets out his cab and calls the PSB. Signal is set to red so we are, accoring to the train manager "being delayed due to the signal being set to red" A few minutes pass and I overhear that the front powercar has ATP problems. Moments later it comes over the PA as "the leading powercar is having problems" After recieving a certificate to proceed we leave about 12 late. We seem to make up time at Tiveton, but some prat from Exeter PSB decides to put us on the down relief at Norton Fitzlwarren so that is a good 2 miles of 15mph down a relief line, when we could have been doing 100mph on the mainline. So as if we have not been delayed enough we leave taunton about 20 down. Weston approaches and we wait a few mintues for a path. Arriving at Weston we are still late. Signal clears after 5 minutes or so. After getting onto the mainline the train passes no fewer than 5 trains before Parson street, whilst we continue to hit yellows for an unknown reason. Thinking it is the voyager that will have passed us whilst in the Weston loop i wonder as to why it seems to be stopping and hence delaying us. Turns out we were behind a stopper! So arrving into a packed Bristol platform we are about 20 late. Bravo First. It seems the new set is riddled with bad luck having not suffered much good as of late.
It seems it wasn't fGWs day with the 1705 suffering from a P/C down! Made it over the Devon banks mind.
