Hello Everyone,

I am on a mission!

I am trying to build up a knowledge of what TOC’s use what tests at their recruitment events for Trainee Train Drivers. Obviously I already know about the generic tests like the Reactions test, Group Bourdon, SCAAT, TRP 1 & 2, but having failed one TOC already it would seem there is quite a variation from operator to operator about what other tests they use.

Any help or advice would be very much gratefully received!

Thank you in advance for all your help!

I've heard NX have changed theyre system completly, the DM's responsible for training on NX were telling me about it the last time I was up at the school, one which actually involves multiple choice questions based on train emergency situations which tests your ability to prioritise. Similiar to the dials but more relevant to the role. I'll see if I can dig out any more infromation.

Pretty pointless I may add, as far as knew recruitment was frozen until the end of the franchise!

I like the sound of this, as it may slightly play into the hands of people who already have a good knowledge of railway operations and scenarios, i.e. rail staff and hardcore rail enthusiasts. :p

So do NX do just the Group Bourdon, TRP 1 & 2 (with the new test instead of the dials), Mechanical, Reaction and Coordination test?

Thanks in advance.

So does anyone know of any TOC's who do not use standard TOC recruitment tests. I know HEX use the standard tests pluys a barrage of other OPC tests.

Any help would be much appretiated.

FCC do the standard tests and then do the following additional ones:

railway voice communication exercise
railway written communication exercise
and
SCAAT concentration (bearing in mind that Group Bourden is used as part of the standard tests)

Thanks for that! I know HEX also use the railway voice communication exercise & railway written communication exercise too.

Does anyone know how difficult these tests actually are? Ive looked at The OPC website but theres not that much info!

if you prepare plenty of time before the tests then personally i thought they weren't too difficult.

the mechanical comprehension is fairly tricky if your not mechanically minded like me but otherwise not too bad...

Thanks for that, I don't suppose you remember what questions were in the Mechanical test (apart from the gear questions!)?

Thanks in advance.

If you were told that on a public forum it would deem the test useless!
