re: Last trains from Parc Slip

Good evening all, just got told that all trains to/from parc slip will cease from February, so this may be one of teh last times to see regular freight on the tondu - margam line.

the trains should be running this week at :

monday, thursday & fridays,times are:

11:10 Margam - Parc Slip (Arr 11:30)

13:00 Parc Slip - Margam (Arr 13:20)

next week, (26th January) trains will operate monday - saturdays at the same times,although these can change.

anyone wanting direction on how to get to parc slip as the local cycle/footpath offers good view's of the site, please sned me a private message or send a email to:

i do understand that once flows have ceased, the only train to go over the line are the CWM & Go railtour in march & perhaps the occasional diversions.

also expect some annoucements about the Garw Valley railway soon

Hmmm, Might have to go on Sat, But as you said times can change. Dont have good route knowledge of that area, is there a station near by? I dont mind having to cycle a few miles though

Nearest stations would be in order of closeness: Tondu, Port Talbot Parkway and Pyle. Not sure how far Parc Slip is from them, but I'd suggest Tondu personally judging by the Baker.

The OP mentions the Gwaurn cae-summut (the one that branches off the Heart of Wales, too lazy to reach for the Baker!) line and an announcement. This featured on the Welsh regional news on BBCi last week, the first trains have started already after a 10-year gap. Hopefully this means Pathfinder will feature it in a tour soon (it was to feature in The Principality Freighter, when NR decided it couldn't be made ready in time it was postponed).

Parc Slip had more draigrams than just Margam no? Isn't there a Parc Slip to somewhere north as well?

Exactly right bar the 'r' being a 'u' in 'Gwarn' there (just checked the Baker which had been moved to my side after a froth and spin about a tour), so fair play!

The most ideal stations near parc slip are tondu & Pyle.

i cant remember the directions on the cycle way to parc slip from tondu, but i can provide directions from Pyle station.


This saturday the train times are different, compared to weekdays.

times for saturday and i suspect for other saturdays as well are:

07:10 Margam - Parc Slip (07:30)
09:00 Parc Slip - Margam (09:20)


be warned trains can depart parc slip either earlier or later than stated.


i know parc slip used to have regular freight services, but everytime i went to get some photos the train never seemed to turn up.

i idid see one of the ews class 37's a couple of years ago working thsi route, sadly i didnt have a digital camera then.

i will be at parc slip this thursday & Possibly friday/Saturday as well

i have riden my bicycle from Pyle station to parc slip and it has taken me 22 minutes
