To celebrate the anniversary of the first public railway service in 1825 a local resident of Feltham Dr Lino Cericola, retired dentist created a 1/4 size model of the Stephenson's Rocket which will be permanently displayed after the unveiling at Feltham train station ticket office on Friday 7th February at 2.00pm .
The Rocket, 1829, was chosen because of its highly recognisable design and its importance in demonstrating the viability of steam locomotion as a means of public transport.
The Rocket combined various design features from other earlier locomotives. This combination of features was so successful in increasing efficiency, reliability and safety that they were used in all future steam engine design.
Lino has used largely reclaimed and donated materials in its construction which he has then crafted with basic hand tools.
The original Stephenson’s Rocket was painted yellow and black for publicity purposes at the Rainhill trials. However it was decided to leave it a more natural colour so as not to distract from the beauty of the model. We hope that Lino’s craftsmanship provides interest and pleasure to adults and children alike.
