I’m travelling Newcastle to Lewes today on a rather pricy open ticket. My Lewes train just got terminated at Haywards Heath so I’ll be at least 30 mins late. I know I can claim back 50% of the total ticket from southern, but what about the upgrade I purchased for the Newcastle to London leg? Is that considered part of the overall fare (and therefore delay repay applies) or not?

Fare.
But, yes, you claim for a refund on the total journey, against the company that caused the delay.

Yes, it all counts as long as you allowed the minimum connection time across London.

What time did you depart Newcastle?

Which train is the one terminating early?

Yes I was on my booked itinerary across London. I departed Newcastle at 10.00 today and my 14.47 train from Victoria was terminated at Haywards Heath.

Ancillary question, out of interest - do Southern’s delay repay standards apply (from 15 mins delay) or LNER’s (from 30, I believe)?

48 minutes across London (13:59-14:47).
Southern’s rules apply, they are the people from whom you will be claiming.

The delay will be 30-59 minutes (changing at Brighton), assuming no further delays.

Claim from GTR for all tickets held for the journey.

Out of interest, if you purchase an upgrade after the delay has occurred but you're still on board, presumably you can't then claim for that?

TOCs do have the right to refuse compensation for tickets purchased after a delay was known about.
