Questions about Navigo in Paris

Things have changed since I was last there and I see that metro and bus tickets are now separately priced. Presumably gate lines and bus ticket machines are set up to take the appropriate ticket.

If we buy a few journeys of each, how can we later on see how many are left? One of us has a plastic card and the other uses a phone.

If we bought a day ticket at some point, would we lose any existing tickets on the card or phone, or would they remain to use the following day?

In the 'Bonjour RATP' app, you can see how many tickets you still have. I believe this also works with a Navigo card, since you can read and recharge it with the app.
If you buy a day ticket, other tickets stay valid.

Thanks. I assume that you can use ticket machines to see the number of tickets on a plastic card in the same way that you can with Oyster cards in London.

Yep, the app will tell you as well when scanning the card

Incidentally, trying to add €2,55 to my Navigo pass at Gare de Lyon the other day, I found that none of the machines was accepting cash.

Not sure if this was just a local/temporary problem or if cash payments are being phased out generally?

I queued up at the ticket office to hand over my coins in the end...

Probably not, as it is illegal to not accept cash in most circumstances under French law...
