Q for second home owners r/e doctors

Wholly within the UK; if you buy or rent a second home - maybe a holiday permanent rental - what is the situation regarding doctors at the second residence? Can you sign on to a local GP as well as your own, or can you just show up as a "tourist"?

think you can be registered at only 1 GP
but they will all see tourists
They can all access your records - all the data is shared.

Indeed you can only officially be registered with one practice. When I was living between two places I registered where I spent most of my time and ended up visiting the GP in the second place more.

This was before computerised records sharing but after an initial visit the practice got a copy of my records by fax. There was some polite encouragement to move practices (presumably a funding thing, most GPs are contractors not NHS employees) but apart from that no issues.

Most GPs get paid for each patient on their books. So if you were registered with more than one GP, it would mean the taxpayer was paying twice as much for you as the next patient. Clearly the NHS doesn’t want that to happen. So you have to decide which residence is your main one and register there. Visits to GPs at the other location will be as a tourist.

Whilst I am registered at a local surgery whenever I need a doctor I go to the emergency drop in centre. Never been a problem as all my data is shared and I have access to it if required.
