This is what I was referring to.
And that's not a "staff Oyster card" but an Oyster card with a Priv all rail discount applied. And there is no way that someone finding such a card would know that.

This was sort of my point for someone in the know to comment about - I was under the impression that the details are verified on the spot - unless the cousins name and address matched up?
On the spot verification is quite new - the internet has only been around for maybe 40 years and, and maybe less than 20 to be easily accessed from a phone. Giving false names to the authorities goes back a lot further so there are long standing solutions to looking for the right person.

Could it be possible that the staff member reported the card missing, but instead of blocking the card, TfL tracked its recent usage and planned a sting operation to catch OP? In this case, CCTV would have been recorded and kept. But it would require departments to work together, so I’m not sure how likely that would be.

They showed an example of a sting on the Channel 5 programme. If I recall correctly that was a concessionary, hence free, Senior Oyster being used for commuting. They need to view CCTV to screen out legitimate use by the holder.

There does seem to be a problem here. A visitor to my site is having problems adding a new card so TfL Go can see it. It's fine on the website. Hopefully something can be done after the holiday.
This issue has now been fixed. I wonder whether the card in question in this thread has now disappeared from the app?
