It is a luxurious and exclusive world where you can avoid large airports and other passengers. And there is no rush to meet your check-in time - as the sleek jet takes off when you are ready, and not the other way round.

Plus, in many cases, you don't even have to go into a terminal building. Instead the limousine drives out onto the tarmac, right up to the aircraft. Where a smiling member of cabin crew hands you a glass of champagne as you relax into a soft leather armchair.

It kind of makes a mockery of the climate agenda. Are high first class fares on traditional carriers encouraging Private Plane use? Should the airport security banality be reviewed to be more customer friendly in order to encourage use of traditional flights?

Anybody hired their own private jet here?

In his defence Boris has traditionally been very pro-cycling, but I should imagine there are significant security and practical concerns that make it less of an option when you are PM and have a massive entourage and baggage train. I do think he should make more use of the railways however.

Cycling is never really an alternative to flying. Agree with your point on the railways though, one example might be the G7 summit in cornwall last year, for which ZZ336 was required (admittedly GWR is rather less snazzy).

'Private Jet' covers a broad range of service/comfort.

A company I worked for had a Cessna Citation Jet as a transatlantic shuttle. Primary customers were the CEO etc. However, there was a company rule to fill all the seats before buying commercial airline tickets, so relative minions might get put on the CJ rather than business class on a Boeing 767. Two reported problems with the CJ: very uncomfortable in turbulence, minimal/zero toilet facililties. The free beer was a mixed blessing (see above).

Not a jet, but a turboprop... back in 1999, I hired Jacqueline Gold's Beech 200 in order to observe the total eclipse of the sun over Cornwall...
