Basically I know the history and all behind the city being abandoned and such but can't get a straight answer, does Pripyat have its own station or sidings or what? I know Yanov has a station and that some of the evacuees went there to be evacuated. I am planning to go there next year and am doing my homework well in advance. I've seen pictures of what people claim is a highly irradiated station in Pripyat itself that is well and truly off limits, any truth?

As far as I am aware it is, and will for many years to come. You can go on tours though, for a fee hundred euros, or go yourself with the right documents.

Yanov is the station for Pripyat, there is not another one in the centre of Pripyat itself or anything. Access to the station and rail yard is restricted, but can be granted by special permission of the ChernobylInterinform.

As I suspected Sprinterguy, thanks for the confirmation, I didn't think there was another station as google maps doesn't show it .

Geordie back from exile.
Chernobyl is on my 'to do' list as it is somewhere like nowhere else on earth but more than that is the the site around 14 miles SW (or WSW) of Chernobyl where all the vehicles used in the immediate aftermath of the disaster are abandoned. Really eerie sight that must be, all manner of vehicles of all sorts of shapes and sizes just left to rot. Not much choice really of course, just an incredible sight.

Good luck in your travels, should be amazing.

Thankyou Flymo, I am truly looking forward to it. I'd love to see the control room at CNPP but it's hard as nails to get permissio sadly.
