I've never really understood why the Glasgow to Edinburgh maps get so complicated in the routeing gude
what are they trying to prevent by showing all of the permitted routes, rather than drawing a straight line from Glasgow Group to Edinburgh Group?
The issue are the passenger flows and combinations
There are also historical agreements
The obvious one is Warrington - Preston - Edinburgh
ATOC would prefer passengers to change at Carlisle, rather than via Glasgow
If a passenger does accidently travel to Glasgow, then the routing guide allows them to travel on limited routes to Edinburgh
At present Glasgow QS - Airdrie - Bathgate - Edinburgh is not an alternative route, but it is likely to be added later this year (once the full timetable is in operation)
Ironically, passengers with journeys via Glasgow QS LL need not change and can travel via Airdrie
Equally, there are now reports that the Central Scotland Rover is being refused via Airdrie (in error)
Some staff are pulling out the leaflet, which clearly does not include the route!
I did have an assurance from First ScotRail that it would be accepted, but have now had to make a further enquiry about this
However this map appears on their website (which does match the latest leaflet) :
