Indeed, and to be honest, it's to be welcomed. The plan initially was to simplify the layout, for example, Blackpool lines would be resticted to platforms 1-3. In reality they already are, but the flexibility of being able to get from any platform to any route is extremly useful!

The only thing that would come in handy is a north facing bay. Ideally the siding at the north end of P4.
