Preservation project 3D scanning (Lidar + Photogrammetry)

Hello.
I'm new to the forum.

I provide 3D scans to film and TV and am looking to test a few new techniques, and the theme of railway preservation was suggested to me.
If you have a locomotive, car, or something else that you would like a 3D model of, I would love to have a chat with you.
I'm mostly looking for rolling stock that is not picture-perfect, ideally a complete wreck!

What do you get? A 3D mesh for posterity, with very good accuracy (about 1mm deviation).
What do I get? A visually interesting test that I can then show to my prospective clients.

Whatever I scan won't be used for any commercial purpose other than demonstration material, I have no control over what might be available to scan.
I am located in Buckinghamshire, and would love to chat about what you might have for me to scan.

Do you have a ball-park figure for what would you might normally charge for scanning (for example) a locomotive cab? Just asking out of interest, as I do a lot of work with rolling stock design engineers.

Hello, Chartered Geospatial Engineer here: You're not going to get 1mm deviation with photogrammetry - not a chance. Depending on the instrument you choose to use you might get up to around 10mm deviation with good overlap. You might get 1mm deviation on a single setup with a very high accuracy terrestrial laser scanner (that's LiDAR y'all), but I would never quote better than 5mm residual error/deviation for multiple setups (which you will need to scan a train.)
In any case the kind of accuracies quoted are for engineering, for a model just for show you don't need such accuracies, 10-30mm will do.

I own a couple of vintage buses, one in Cheshire and one in Manchester, please may I offer either or both of them for scanning? Rapido Models scanned a couple of buses at Wythall transport museum using this technique, it looked fascinating.
