Hi all,
I'm off to Porto for a few days next week for plenty of loco-haulage and as an enthusiast of Portuguese railways in general. I was wondering if anyone would know if CP issue permits for depot visits, in particular Contumil and Guifoes in Porto? I realise it's rather short notice now but any advice for future trips would be greatly appreciated!

It's easier to visit the workshops if you are acquainted with someone working in those facilities, although you'd be limited to their specific workplace, and unable to visit other sections or workshops if they're not in a category that gives them that flexibility.

The best for most cases is to contact CP by email and state who you are and what you want to visit. If you have the email of the director of the workshop in question it's faster and more plausible that'll get a reply.

Rules for external visitors apply. The use of a high-visibility vest is mandatory for general visits and the use of a safety helmet and safety shoes is obligatory to get closer to the rolling stock and tools.

There are other ways, through planned group visits by Portuguese rail enthusiasm clubs, or even the PTG. APAC will be visiting the Barreiro workshops on October 21.

Many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated. The main problem is trying to get contact/email details for the individual directors concerned.
I fully understand the health and safety rules for visits, I'm a train driver myself!
Even being employed in the rail industry here in Britain doesn't get me access to depots like it used to!
Thanks again for your reply
