I just wish that some of the sites had seat selection the way it is on the LNER site .. look at a plan of the train, showing the available seats .. note direction of travel, positions of tables etc. and select your seats.there is a 'pencil' denoting the ability to edit the seats next to the numbers of the seats you get automatically given.
That is just the way it works - you get an automatic allocation, then need to change it.
I know from experience on TPE, I eventually gave up trying to get two table seats together, so after phoning TPE, I had to just book any two seats, then contact them again, so they could then change them.
So two phone calls required and a bit of effort on their part .. with LNER all that is avoided
