To be fair, it'll have been partly due to the major track re-profiling project at Carstairs in recent months, which should be nearing completion in June, but TPE's general performance could perhaps be described as "sub-optimal" for some time now.

Just to further clarify, when are you intending to make your journey North (from Carlisle), (= July - yes?), what day of the week will this be, and are you still booked to be travelling with TPE to Glasgow Central (rather than to Edinburgh)?
