Latest update is £550 spent to install one injector! The mechanic insisted that there's a fair chance the rest will go over the next year or two. SELL IT!

Also trashed a lot of newer cars in general as being mechanically and electronically unfit for purpose. The missus is being wooed towards a Mazda CY-5....even that the mechanic warned against buying the diesel variants. The 2L Petrols are fine and can rack up high mileages. Proper old school Japanese configuration that isn't obsessed with mpg but can be trusted.

Anything Japanese or Korean is a fairly safe bet for reliability. If the Mazda isn't to your OH's liking then look at the equivalent Honda, Toyota, Kia or Hyundai - or, if you want something left-field, Subaru or Suzuki.

In 1998, Washington Services, Newcastle. Driver goes to the till. Asks to pay with the company fuel card. Lady at the till says you can't use that one, it's not allowed. Driver kicks off. Lady at the till says it's only for Diesel, and so for the £200 of petrol you've just put into your National Express coach would you like to pay cash or card?

To this day, I remind him of this every time I see him

Very much agree the Mazda diesel is hopeless. A petrol CX-5 is a nice enough car though.
