PCV Mileage Competition 2015

We're doing it for trains, it's high time we had one for road transport!

Buses and coaches apply for this one, whether for leisure or commuting purposes. Working mileage does not count!

Anyone game for it? I am solely because I spend a lot of time on buses, mostly for the commute these days but I do still enjoy 'proper' buses. Like on my Kent Rover trip, the sight and sound of a step-entrance Dart at Aylesford was very enjoyable indeed. I'd have loved to sample that again, it's been a long time since I had a bus capable of making a decent noise! Quite, the last one will have been W408 UCJ, what a monster Optare Excel 2 Sadly that's been retired for quite some time now :cry:

My figures will be added in the next couple of days, once I get the last 2.5 months or so of commuting logs transferred from my phone to my A6 book

I'd be up for it although I don't use the bus as much as I used to now I have the use of a car again

It'd take me a little while to work my mileage out though as I've got most of them noted down but in a lot of different notepads and draft text messages on my phone. If I can find them all and get it calculated I'll post my current bus mileage in a few days

Why doesn't work mileage count? It counts for rail mileage doesn't it?

If it did then I'd trump you all with the amount of overtime I'm doing

I disagree with work mileage counting for rail mileage, hence it being banned in this one!

Worked out my 2015 bus mileage so far, it currently stands at 1,496.7

I've spent a grand total of 15 minutes on a bus this year, so my mileage is bound to be high!

Good because if it's less than a mile* you really should be walking it!

*Unless it's up a very steep hill.

Can I count my miles to lectures? Seeing as I'm a student and lectures are instead of work should I count them??

Commuting counts. By work we mean if you worked as a bus driver you couldn't count the miles you drove.

Would it not be more appropriate to start something like this at the beginning of the year, or at least set a start date in advance.

Not all of us have a good enough memory and/or record our bus mileages in order to backdate to January 1st.

Think mine works out at around 400 miles for this year so far. I keep a tally of my trips but not which route or from/to where, so that's only a estimate working from memory of routes taken.

I'm just surprised no-one else was brave enough to suggest doing it, let alone trial a thread on it. Yes it would have been better to do it from January but I've only just had the guts to post this thread. I've been logging my leisure and commuting bus mileages for nearly 4 years. Coach journeys I've only ever logged in my moves book and have yet to work out any mileages for over the years. Of course, that changes now.

Worth pointing out I used Google Maps to get the figures for my regular routes, although I keep meaning to ask one of the local drivers for the odometer data off the run to make sure it's correct. Yes I do know at least 3 of the drivers well enough to do that!

Do rail replacement buses, travel on private hire coaches and travel in 8/16 seaters count for this?

Public transport buses only... That's how I'd do it, because one of the irregular routes round Oxford way occasionally uses a minibus on their Saturday/Sunday services...
Public transport means that way any bus size can be included.

Just sat down and worked out that so far this year I have driven approx 5700 miles in a bus. Which is approx 2400 more miles than I traveled by train last year!

I know this doesn't count though

Rough estimate is well over 3000 miles. 2500 miles of it taken up by a 25 miles each way commute, 3 days a week.
