It might not have been a javelin, I used alot of different trains that day. Is there anything else with the sockets fitted?

Why did Virgin discontinue the radio services on WC services or was it only ever XC?

I've no idea why but I've noticed they've not broadcast for ages. My guess would be something to do with licensing or perhaps, due to the proliferation of personal music devices rendered them superfluous, especially with the rise of phones.

It's a shame they don't let you stream audio on their WiFi (although it's obvious why they don't) especially since I'll be going to London next on a Saturday afternoon at around 3 xD

390s have them fitted as do 180s (don't work either as far as I know). I believe they stopped as demand was low and it was a hassle to keep maintained and functioning as well as the cost for the rights to broadcast content (hence why there normally wasn't much on).

It was a 390 I went on not a 395, don't know why i thought it was a javelin. Thanks :)

You'd rather FGW had light switches that turned the main lights off!

But, haven't they adjusted them so every other light is off? That must have made quite a big difference.

They have a Bright (which has all lights on) and Dim (which is every other light) switch in the vestibule of all coaches.

The ones on CrossCountry IIRC played 3 pre-recorded radio stations plus live Radio 4 and the Pendolinos had I think 9; which was all the live BBC main radio stations plus others.

It was a treat if it ever worked in the first place. ISTR they stopped working on CrossCountry a way before the franchise changed but can't remember if they were discontinued officially. I'd heard that on 390s they were deactivated to use the space for WiFi equipment.

No idea when or why the XC radios were switched out, but the Pendos other than being primarily run down and non-essential maintenance had it officially deactivated to free up control channel space to make the WiFi work. The radio interface is still accessible to an extent.

A few seats in the 175/1s (coach B?) have headphone sockets as well, but I don't think they have been active since First North Western days at least.
