I was on a 142 pacer this morning, it was one of the ex mersey rail ones that had a destination screen and had yellow paint thrown over anything made of metal inside.
All the way from KKM to PRE I could hear a high pitched sound, it was extremely high pitched at around the 18,000hz mark. Anyone else heard this?
Couldn't tell if it was coming from the display or from the cab.

Most likely the cab side slider windows seals have perished causing the wind to whistle through them. A common problem on them and an annoying one too, it can get very loud when running at speed.

When running at 75mph it can be. The only other thing I can think it would be is the doors regulator leaking - this is located in the destination box.

Not in the cab it won't be. I work on the 142s and there is nothing electrical in the cab that could emit that kind of noise. The radio would crackle if it was active.

It's as high pitched as that ?
(Noticed the space before the ? , :D Français !)

High enough to be unnoticed by older ears but I'll be a little more conservative and say 16,000-17,000hz. Rather like a Cathode ray tv sound if you've heard it before.

Not likely because the sound was consistant in pitch and volume, it was almost a sine tone.

It was closer to the oposite side to the driver.

I was taught to put a space before ? and ! in French, nothing else just noticed it.

Then it will have been the door regulator. It is mounted in the destination box on the secondmans side.

The wind whistling through the seals is a constant tone when running at speed though.
