Anyone intending to get this for the divert/reverse via Munster and curve at Osnabruck, please be aware train is full and standing at Amsterdam. Guard is demanding (his words) those without a reservation leave the train before it can depart. I will update later.

All stops in Netherlands cancelled......some folks have now left the train. Next stop first stop Germany......
If this proves correct and not just pick up only at intermediate stations is this a first for a daytime scheduled service?

Still at Amsterdam. Guard has advised those without reservations to travel on the 1110, but few takers.

I wonder if they'll cancel the train, then those with reservations will be stuck.....

Now underway, 60 late at Hilversum, passed non stop, train seriously overcrowded with bodies occupying every available bit of floor space....

Bad Betheim for loco change, I can confirm it ran non-stop (and no signal stops) from Centraal to Germany. A first for me and it seems for the crew whose tannoy announcement proudly announced we have arrived (with no stops) in Germany!

No, as such nothing new and I suppose this conductor (as we dutch tend to call that person) has this experience from last summer on the ICE to FRA-where it often happened the same way. Even leaving people who did have booked/REServed at Arnhem stranded as it swished by without stopping on the platform.
What the actual reason is that this train today is for me not quite clear, holidays here have not yet started and I am also not aware of some major crowd-drawing activity.
But as such- myself now holding that cheap german 49€/month season and using it a few times on that RE 19 slow train Arnhem-Duisburg, it does appear that many more use it as before.

Looking at treinposities.nl I see ICE 153, which should depart 2 minutes earlier, was cancelled due to defective rolling stock. So probably IC 143 got a trainload of additional passengers trying to get to Germany via a different route.

The 143 is preceded by an additional domestic service to Deventer 10 minutes earlier, so high domestic demand shouldn't be an issue. As the holiday season has started already for those without kids attending school, it will just have been a busy train for international travellers with the cancellation of an ICE causing additional overcrowding.

I can confirm train has a huge number of Spanish interrailers extra today, apparently there's an itinerary they follow and they're all at the same stage, or so my Spanish travelling companions advise. Seeing 12 students rammed into an 8 person compartment reminds me of my own student days. Problem is most travellers have HUGE suitcases, not backpacks and it is these which made train unsafe to leave Amsterdam for an hour as they were blocking aisles and exits.

Credit to the train staff who've been great.

DBahn conductor advised train won't go forward to Berlin from Osnabrück unless 100 standing passengers leave the train as it is dangerously overcrowded. There are police already on board so I expect a bit of a riot at Osnabrück....!

The following EC 145 is apparently half full and folks being advised to transfer to that.

Bit of pedantry - these are normal InterCity services, not EuroCity.

Oops apologies....to add insult to injury our train now 66 late has just done an emergency brake application from 160km/H just east of Minden with spectacular chaos onboard given the sardine-tin crush!! (Not enough detrained at Osnabrück).
This has to be one of the more entertaining trips of my 3 month interrail!!
(Cause of brake application has been cited as smoke detector activated, police to escort smokers off train at Hannover).

Apparently it was. Looks like issues with the ICE International are playing a role in this.
For ICE 159 the spare train (an NS Vectron with German IC1 carriages) has been deployed, which is the first time this spare train is actually used.

Though it appears to have some issues as well...

I surprised supplementary road coaches were not offered. This is standard practice in Victoria and at least everyone gets there even though it can be slower.

Road coaches are not standard here in that situation. It takes too long to aquire them.
Usually they try to get passengers in parallel regional services.
DB is certainly running beyond capacity for a number of years now.
