I hold a super off peak return ticket. I was due to travel Monday but due to the weather being so bad, I got a lift to my destination last Sunday. As I have not used the outward journey, can I still use my return portion? It’s a super off peak return so of course will use on a super off peak train time. Just not sure as I’ve never been in this situation.

Cheers!

Yes, that's fine.

Yes, that’s OK. What you cannot do is retain the outward ticket and use it if the return portion has already been used.

Awesome, I’ve never been in this situation. Just wasn’t sure if the ticket technically is voided if the outward journey was not used.

Oh no defo not. I’m gonna see if I can get refunded for it not being used.

You can either use it on an alternative date within the period of validity or alternatively I believe you should be able to get a refund of 50% of the value of the return.

A refund would apply if any of the trains you intended to catch were cancelled or delayed; it should also apply if a "do not travel" advisory was in place at the time you wanted to travel.

I think that would be particularly problematic in terms of using the outward portion after the return portion has been used.

Is the journey one where singles are half the return (or is there a suitable single that is, e.g. an Advance)? If so refunding the whole thing as did not travel due to disruption and purchasing a new single is likely to be your easiest option.

11.3 A return Ticket must be used in the correct sequence (you must use the outward portion of your return Ticket before you use the return portion). The outward portion of a return Ticket is no longer valid for travel once the return portion has been used

Yeah I ain’t bothering using the outward portion anymore. I prob won’t go for a refund to save the hassle as the train was running it says.
