one month validity

if I buy an Off Peak or Anytime Rtn ticket that's valid for one month on 2nd August, will it be valid for the return journey on the 2nd September, or just up to the day before?

The ticket would be valid until the 1st September, so yes up to the day before.

I believe you have to commence your journey by 0230 on 2nd September (until 0230 tickets that are valid for 1st September can be used) and if you cannot reach your destination you can stay overnight but must resume your journey by 1200 on the 2nd.

But you can't commence your journey after 0230 on the 2nd.
