Olympic Ticket Sales

Just thought I'd drop a hint that ticket applications close at midnight tonight, so there's 20 hours to go. I haven't gotten round to applying because I wasn't sure about the money side (turns out it's not a problem) or indeed if they take Visa Debit as well as normal Visa. I will be having a serious look though!

Has anyone else applied, or otherwise does anyone intend to? As I said applications must be in before midnight tonight. Paralympic sales will be in the autumn. And there are discounts for those aged 60+ (£16) and those aged under 17 ("pay your age [as at 27-07-2012]", £1 - £16).

I've applied for the velodrome - one mens medal race and one womens medal race.

Our local papers carry a lot of good press about how superb the new circuit is; and those who've ridden on it already are forecasting world records galore at the Olympics - the circuit really is that fast.

I have friends whose ticket-applications come to more than £2,000! Blimey!

Yes, sales are restricted to VISA cards only
Rather than have an unexpected payment through Visa Debit I purchased a preloaded VISA card

Also, this is the first batch of tickets, for what are expected to be the more popular events
More are to follow in due course, plus those that people were unable to pay for (and I can see there being a considerable amount)
Finally, some events are "free"

My friend and I have applied for the Men's 100m final session a few weeks back, we have been keen sprinters together since a young age and a big fan on the sport, and were looking forward to the event ever since London was awarded the games, just hope we get the tickets now

I too have applied for tickets for a couple of events - the Athletics on August 4th and 5th, thought I've only actually applied for the two in the home of getting one. Having said that, if I get both, then I won't be trying to get rid of one lot! I'm not a huge sport fan normally, but with such a variety of events taking place on those days, several finals and victory ceremonies I think it will be a fantastic atmostphere and one of those things to be able to look back at and say "I was there".

AFAIC the best thing about 2012 is the special train movements going on - i.e. 0130 trains to Newcastle and Manchester. I love sport, but find the Olympics a bore. Even Olympic footie is rubbbish

Have got my application in. I don't want to chance waiting until the later runs when "unwanted" tickets are sent out. I have put in four £20 claims and one £20.12 claim, including four (one of which is the £20.12) in London and one elsewhere.

The website says that, for successful applications, payment will be taken between 10th May and mid-June 2011.
So, adding up all the money we're shelling out - up to 15 months ahead of the actual ticketed event - exactly how much £ interest is the IOC generating for themselves, off our money...?

A massive amount but the money for all of those officials has got to come from somewhere and that somewhere is the poor suckers who's cards are being debited.

Cards were charged by midnight yesterday. They will be contacting people who's cards failed by the 10th, and people find out their allocations by the 24th.

I don't understand why people are wasting their money with this.

I'm going to the Olympics for free: by watching the events on television.

As usual, the priority events and the respective seats will go to the sponsors.

I went to the Olympics in China (courtesy of Samsung) and so decided that given it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see them here - and I live within easy travel of Stratford - it would be worth putting in for some (cheap) tickets.

You do get a very nice atmosphere that isn't available watching on TV. The atmosphere in China was amazing, and I hope it would be the same here.
