Hi all, read on onother site that oil trains could be back at Stanlow Cheshire in the very near future, any one heard about this, seems Shell want to bring it back, as far as I know the old line has no gone which went down through to Mouldsworth and joined up with the line to Northwich, although they could go through Helsby, Frodsham and then to Arpley yard at Warrington.

could be interesting.

Thank you for posting this. Do you have a link to what you read please? I lived for most of my childhood in a house backing onto the Helsby to Mouldsworth line and so grew up with class 40, 25, 47 roaring through with oil, stone, cars and fertiliser in tow. Great.

Hi Cheshire Rover, this was quoted in Railway Forum 28th March 2013
"Ive got frend who works at Stanlow,he said the "new owners" of Shell in Ellesmere port are going back to oil tanker trains soon, plans have been put forward....
how much truth ??? would not see much of a problem with slots in the traffic as their is not much goes through these lines except arrive trains and the odd freight.

Hi Freelander.
Thanks for that. I agree that there should be no problems between Stanlow and Warrington. Even better would be the relaying of the line between Helsby and Mouldsworth but I can't see this being done just for Essar. Maybe if Vauxhall, Kemira and Quinn had a need then I could see it happening. Anything that increases traffic between Helsby and E Port can only be good for the future of the line.
