Odd Penalty Fare - any thoughts please?

I'm not 100% sure on this. There has been the option where someone buying a season paid that bit more to get the free public transport option. I do go to the matches, so not 100% sure if this is still the case. I know I have seen cup tickets that have printed on them, valid for travel to falmer, or words to that effect.
TBH, when its match days its not even possible to go through the trains and check tickets on some. When you can your looking for certain things, and perhaps even I have been fooled by a staff member showing a pass into thinking its a valid match day pass. But as i have said, I have sold tickets to staff members.
From what i can see is the OP has been relying on the 'wink and nod' system. Has been caught and is miffed.
There has NEVER been any written information that BHAFC staff members got free travel to Falmer. Only supporters with noted tickets/season cards. I have a feeling that the OP may have opened a can of worms here.

Thats interesting to know and if I was the OP I wouldnt even bother appealing if you are saying its never been confirmed in writing, pay it and be done. Quickly

Hey everyone - once again many thanks for your input.

You'll be pleased to know that I have paid the Penalty Fare today and will from now on be travelling by car or paying the fare required for train use.

Re: sarahj's quote - I dont think it could be classed as a 'wink and a nod' system as (previous to the PFN being issued) train staff had always just let us through without any querying nor suspicion - it was never a case of "okay, I'll let you on this time but shhhhhh dont tell anyone.."

Obvs there has been a miscommunication between me and other stadium staff, the club and Southern but now we all know where we stand, so that's good. My bad.

Also in Sarah's quote she says I have "been caught and is miffed". The term 'caught' implies I was aware I was doing something wrong - this is something I categorically refute. I am miffed though. I'm miffed at the way they dealt with this; they issued PFN's on us without any warning that they had changed their position on our authority to travel. If it had been down to me (which of course it isn't) I would've stopped all staff travelling on their passes on the day and said something like:-
"Just to let you know as of today these passes do not get you free travel to the stadium, please let your colleagues know, and if you try to use them again you will be issued with a Penalty Fare Notice. Is that clear? Also, if you are planning to travel back to Brighton this evening can I suggest you buy your return ticket now?" Seems reasonable.

Anyhoo, all paid up now and lesson learnt. Thanks everyone again for your help.

On the upside, as a previous contributer posted, I think the free travel zone for fans is a great idea and all involved should be applauded.

Can you point us to where it was previously possible for you to travel for free but that has now been removed?
Nothing I have read on here has shown that you were allowed to travel for free, except (as stated) on a wink and a nod basis!

Without calling someone a blatant liar, we'll never know. What we do know is that someone working on the ground has explained how it might be possible for mistakes to have been made, especially in the crowded conditions around a football match. I'm far happier that the OP seems to have accepted the situation and is prepared to move on. I don't think continuing the spanish inquisition is going to get us anywhere.

Actually, you're right. I'm not miffed; I'm happy that I got away with it over a hundred times before I was 'caught'. I'd like to thank all the rail staff who aided and abetted me in my devious plan over the years. My glass is half-full.

No idea what that has to do with the topic, but since you ask...

Applying standard mathematical notation:

1 x brick = 0.5 x brick + 7 lbs

0.5 x brick = 7 lbs

1 x brick = 2 x 7 lbs = 14 lbs

Ergo 1.5 bricks = 21 lbs
