Hi All,

I’m planning to make a trip to Graz on 6 November and just wondered if any of you knowledgeable people on here had any travel recommendations.

My preference is the shortest journey time between the two albeit I don’t want to blow the budget.

Any advice welcome.

Many thanks

The shortest journey time will involve a sleeper - I will leave you to play with the DB/OeBB journey planner which will show various options including the Zurich-Graz sleeper..

The price to undercut is £270-odd for a 4-day (adult, 2nd class) Interrail plus Eurostar supplement - which of course would allow you to come back as well within a month :)

From choice I would use day trains and use EC163 Transalpin on day 2 from Zürich or Feldkirch.

The “shortest” journey time theoretically is just under 20 hours. The Inter Rail app gives a departure from Nottingham at 05:49 with arrival at Graz at 02:03 the next day. Route via Eurostar to Brussels, then Frankfurt & Vienna. Not one I’d go for personally though.

I’ll second 30907’s recommendation of EC163 from Zurich-it’s wall to wall scenery for most of the trip. Hotel in either Basel or Zurich will probably work out at a similar price to NightJet supplements.

You can reach Basel or Zurich comfortably from Nottingham in a day via Paris (change Nord to Lyon); then the Transalpin to Graz on day 2. Basel is cheaper for hotel accomodation, but Zurich is nicer IMO.

Thanks everyone, that is really useful and I hadn’t thought to use the Interrail App.

Really really appreciate all your input.

Probably not in the spirit of this but I would consider Ryanair Stansted - Klagenfurt - flight time approc 2h10m
bus KLU-Graz about 3h30m

The Klagenfurt to Graz rail link opens on 14 December, though that's after the OP is going
