Off-topic, but could a small guide rail be positioned above each canopy with a cheap remotely operated camera able to run along and underneath it which would move from end to end of the canopy. This could allow inspection without making a line closure necessary, which I assume would be very costly.

I’m sure there’s solutions to each of the individual problems, but overall, there is a huge cost in building, maintaining and running/keeping safe, clean etc a station which has any kind of building, canopy, toilets and so on. I expect in many cases, including this one, there was either money for one big new station or the new small one and improvements to many others.
Either way a new topic is needed if this is to be discussed more.

Is this part of Bradford councils cunning plan to have more unconnected stations in Bradford than Pontefract?
Two of Ponte-Carlo's stations are actually connected, so they've already stolen a march on Bradford!

The geography of Bradford (with the city centre being at the base of a 'bowl') will always be an issue to building a new railway through the centre.

Government states ''there will not be a new railway across the Pennines''. The idea of a new fast railway was to increase communications expanding the Northern economy. You know like that London centric HS2 stuff.

Meanwhile, the Austrians have just opened a new 80-mile railway between Graz and Klagenfurt, the central feature being the 20-mile Koralm tunnel.
It's taken 25 years to build, has cost about €7 billion (£6 billion), and has a linespeed of 230 km/h (145mph) throughout.
They were able to upgrade about 25 miles of existing branch lines at each end of the route, the rest being new alignment.

Our Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) has a budget of £11 billion (unclear if this includes the last phase, Stalybridge-Huddersfield*).
Manchester-York is 70 miles, and the maximum speed will be 110mph for a limited distance in the Calder Valley (with 125mph Church Fenton-York).

* it's 18 miles from Stalybridge to Huddersfield, a little shorter than the length of the new Koralm tunnel

And just liek that, the little remaining impetus for the continuation of HS2 dies.

Without the cover of NPR, it is toast.

A "new" railway that is still crippled by all the inherent compromises of the old railway.
