Northern 158 at Derby

Around 9pm (as I was awaiting the 2120 EMT to STP) last night (Friday), a Northern rail 158 passed through Derby station with passengers aboard. Since Northern don't server Derby, my guess is that it was a diverted Erewash Valley service. Is this correct? Is it a regular occurrence?

There is one northern service per day (only on weekdays) via Derby in one direction. It runs between Nottingham and Sheffield only, and runs fast from Nottingham to Derby, and picks up its regular calling pattern from sheffield i think. hope this helps.

Ah, that makes sense, didn't notice that the 158 actually stopped there, it certainly wasn't announced, nor did it appear on the screens, how odd..

maybe ecs from a failed train earlier? yeah there is the hourly leeds-nottingham fast service which uses derby...

It's a once daily occurrence. The service in question is the 20:45 Nottingham-Sheffield, calling at Derby, Chesterfield and Sheffield. It is also routed via the Old Road through Beighton.

That is correct, I usually end up sitting on Nottingham station waiting for a train to Langley Mill when that departs, its weird how I always seem to want to be heading home about that time.
