Be aware that in December the bylaws were changed and railway car parks are treated the same as 'other' private car parks.
Thanks for the heads up. The parking ‘event’ took place before this date so all’s good. I checked the relevant land change to Dec 26.

Point me to where I told you that ‘no bylaw allegation has been made’. Section 14 is plastered all over the Notice to Keeper, presumably as an attempt to intimidate. Early days but as far as I can tell, SABA has no legal standing in this case. WMT does and as such should initiate any legal proceedings.
That does sound like it could be fun. Keep us updated!

It is still a railway bylaw offence. You are confusing the matter here with PoFA liability.

No confusion. POFA now applies. A subtle change from ‘statutory’ land to ‘relevant’ land. Not always easy keeping up with legislation when it’s not reported in the legacy media, eh?

Oh, I will. Matey has come up against private parking operators in the past and won on 2 separate occasions but this is the first time he’s confronted a rail station parking outfit. Counterintuitively, he’s actually looking forward to a fight when most would simply pay to make it go away. There’s a lot of bloody-mindedness going on here and I’m right behind him. TBH, I’m a little annoyed by posts advising how to get around this type of problem - no matter how well-intentioned - without considering the wider issue of what is fair and what isn’t. Updates on this as soon as they become available.

Most people seek to navigate the rules that exist in society in a way that keep them from the risk of unexpected fines etc, and unwanted hassle trying to sort things out retrospectively. Not everyone wants to pick a fight at every opportunity, even when they regard the rule in question as unfair.

Whilst this board primarily is for providing advice to the OPs, we are mindful that many others read it, and so it's not at all unreasonable to provide advice that prevents other people getting into that situation in the first place, especially as your first post started with a hypothetical example, and asked "What to do?" So you were asking for ways to mitigate the problem...

+100 to this advice. It's aka navigating life in practical and pragmatic ways. :)

Had a thought on this.

WMT as well as the Saba app also use the Trust app, which can be set up to automatically bill based on drive-in and drive-out times. If you set this up, then (from experience) it creates a session on entry but if you leave within the 20 minutes it removes it again. If you stay past the 20 minutes you are charged, but just at the daily rate, not a fine.

This might appeal to some as a part mitigation.

i have the Saba parking App on my phone which I use infrequently and often don’t carry a wallet with me. I discovered when parking at Watford Junction that I was required to enter the CVV of the registered credit card when parking luckily I was able to phone partner at home for card’s CVV making the App fairly useless.

Put it in your password manager. You do use one I trust? :)
