The 80 class was failed at YR depot and did not do anything today

452 Portrush Branch and 1158 Coleraine/Londonderry (39 late) 1310 Londonderry/Coleraine (28 late) Poor regulating and a slow turnaround at LY were responsible for severe delays

453 1612 Central-Larne Town
454 1642 Central-Larne Town
456 1648 GVS-Carrickfergus
457 1725 GVS-Larne Town
458 1718 Central-Whitehead
459 1705 GVS-Larne Harbour

(3015 1743 Central-Larne Town)

453 is currently producing some spectacular clag that would put some steam locos to shame

Which does beg the question of why NIR don't simply cut their loses with the pair and retire them...

Was the engine issue not as bad as feared?

Because they were lucky yesterday and had high 450 class availability. At one point last week they had ony 4 available and the 80 class made a very bad situation slightly less bad. As it is there is a CAF covering one DEMU diagram every day. Any additional set is not just welcome, but essential.
