NIR 450 Class summer working to Londonderry

The 1028 GVS/Londonderry has been allocated for a 6 car CAF throughout the summer to accommodate high passenger volumes. As a result the 6 car CAF will run through to Portrush. The 450 Class working the branch will run through to Londonderry from Coleraine as a result and return working the 1310 to Coleraine and will then return to branch duties.

Rumours of a CAF working the branch roster all summer has been in the pipeline but at present, there ain't enough CAF's to do so! This will be the last summer where we will have thumpers to Londonderry and Portrush.

As we speak 456 is working the 1158 Coleraine/Londonderry

Done it twice :razz:. 1158 Coleraine-Londonderry and 1315 return was same train both Monday and Wednesday.

456 has worked this diagram to Londonderry everyday this week!

Confirmed. This diagram will run until Friday 26th August 2011.

The 80 class is expected to be withdrawn around the same time, as it is required for Sandite duties starting around the 10th or 17th September 2011.

Is there any danger of a CAF being found for the branch? I'm going to be in NI on 16th/17th August and would like to get up to Derry for this, but have no desire to be bowled.

Contact me nearer the time. There is no spare CAF's and if there was, they wouldn't send it up to the north west as it would needed more down in the city. You should be okay when you're over but like I said, contact me before hand and i'll give you the gen!

I see you managed to get some shots including the film set of the TV show "Game of Thrones" on Friday. I was on the train and seeing those burnt statues on the beach was quite creepy!

Of note regarding the traction is that on the return journey, the unit shut down shortly after departing Castlerock, due to overheating. One of the traincrew said it had also done it during the journey on the previous two days. After a short delay, we were on our way again.

Regarding the 80 Class, the recent diagram was covered by a CAF unit in both the morning and evening that day.

This 450 diagram to Londonderry has been 'suspended' until further notice. Due to punctuality and train performance the 450 DEMU has been removed from the Portrush branch diagram and is replaced by a C3k DMU. It is unlikely the 450 Class will return to the North west at all with the C4k introduction.

Today, 7th August, for an unknown reason, DEMU 454 worked the 1023 GVS/Portrush. This set remains in Coleraine until 1820 when it will work the 1845 from Portrush back to Belfast. However, could it be to swap sets with the CAF on the branch?/?

My gen tells me 454 is now working the branch. WTF!? How I am supposed to keep track of this? I've got one day in NI next week (one measly day!) and now it seems I'm going to have to go to Derry *AND* get in as much 80 class as possible!

454 did the Derry turn today, don't know how long it will last though. 458 failed in Belfast earlier so they might have to send 4 back to Belfast to replace it.
