Though if battery EMUs do indeed come on stream then they can presumably do through Bedwyn services, I guess.

That's what I meant - if GWR (or their nationalised successor) end up getting BEMUs that are suitable for the main line (ie not a Greenford style Thames valley branch system) then they'll probably be using them for Bedwyn through services.

Battery is absolutely part of the long-term answer for the rail network. Whether it's the right option for this specific issue is a different question. I happen to think that London-Exeter via the B&H should be fully wired.

Which will take absolutely decades to complete at any reasonable affordable rate. Batteries are not a sticky plaster but will be a long term part of the railway electrification strategy.
