The same old failed doctrine of cutting to grow. No commercial company would survive long on this basis.

It's normally the sign of a company about to die, to be honest. Companies do need to cut out non-profitable activities to remain profitable, but generalised cutting is normally a company's death throes.

Alstom have secured a €950M 8 year extension for XC Voyager maintenance of 252 vehicles, which includes the 7 Avanti units. Sounds like they are staying until at least 2031!
Alstom will continue to maintain, overhaul, service and clean CrossCountry’s Voyager and Super Voyager fleet until 2031
The contract includes implementation of sustainability innovations in preparation for many more years of service

This sounds like an astonishing amount of money if it doesn’t includes any of the full refurb costs.

Do those in the know on how these things work think this is a reasonable amount? Is it in line with the costs of maintenance of other fleets?

For the size of the operation just over £100m per annum isn’t out of the way.

And I should imagine that for the voyager fleet some of these costs are going to bear in mind the fact that by 2031 they'll be considered to be in their Twilight years and so maintenance costs will creep up as they age and stuff wears out
