Firstly, Sorry to add to the bombardement of polls as of late, but...

Something ive been thinking about lately, so hears the scenario...

Your a manager of a medium if not large size TOC, and you need to order some new units...

Now these new units are needed for both semi long distance services like cardiff to porstmouth or Edinburgh to Inverness, but with a need to cater for a mixture of express and commuter type passengers...

Out of the list ive come up with, chose, and add your own suggestions if i havent included already, what type of unit youd chose and to make this a proper type poll, add 3 reasons why...

One Choice Only this time...but you can list as many options in your posts...

By the way, this is only for run...if i was a manager of a toc, i think id be far from here right now...

Class 170 so I could moan about my own TOC and its crappy 2 car sardine units, nah really class 222, but in the 10 car formation because they are fast modern and comfy to ride on, the first time I went on a 222 I thaught it was 1st class because the seats were awsome, nowt like the 220/221`s

You attached a picture of a 220.

Relialised that...sorry, you caught the post before i had completley written the thread...and havent worked out how to remove it, but it does also act as a image for anyone who might have forgotton, unlikely i know though...

Ive gone for the CAF C3K becasue i was rather sceptical about them until this autumn when i was over in ireland for a few days...and my reason for going with them is that they are internally very bright, spacious and they feel airy, unlike some of the claustrophobic bombarider units most notably the 170 & 220 interiors...

Other interior feutures include very high internal ceilings and proper overhead lugguage racks which you can actually fit a large bag in, aswell as comfortable seating and a very well thought out internal layout with no clumsy interior fuetures such as built in bins, unlike the overscaled bins again in the 170s and desiros, that quite simply give off an appearance of a afterthought...

Other reasons for going with them is that they are solidly built and there ride quility is excellent, as ae the interiors for journeys in excess of 3 hours...as i had one unit from Derry all the way to belfast great victoria street, a journey of roughly 2 - 2 and a half hours...then down to Bangor and back several times in that week...Also, thanks to there construction, they rarely if not at all shake rattle or roll in service and are internally impressivly quiet, despite having 2 underfloor engines, the mainengine being a MAN and there Auxiliary engine by cummins

Max Speed 90

My next choice, is a more intercity styled choice, of the Rotem Built 22000s...As they are 100 mph capable, come in 3 & 6 car formations with buffet in the 6 car units and designed and built around the Mk3s they have replaced, including seats that match up with the windows...and on top of that they do look absolutly fantastic...

Anyhow theres my choices/reasons... eitherway...can people who post read the brief below...afterall, you cant order a new train becasue something else might be ugly...and as stated...your looking for a brand new diesel multiple unit...

^ If I was a manager of a medium if not large size TOC, and you need to order some new units...' I would not base my decision on what a units interior looks like with another TOC, because you'd probably sort that yourself. ;)

185s for me. They just feel well designed and well made.

I do have a fondness for the 180s and their nice Mk3-style layout though...

Well for one it depends on the route and how good the trains are, for one there is no need to run a 10 car 220 when a well maintained 180 would do just as well.
I have no qualms over 180s vs 222s but I would use trains that are suitable for the route so while York to Peterborough might be okay for non stop services with 180s, if I had to do Penzance to Aberdeen or any long distance cross country trip then 10 222s would be the only choice.
