considering Underground train design has changed very little since 1938.

The profile is pretty much fixed and there's no big change to be had like with the 1938 stock putting the motors under the cars. There was a pretty massive change at the 1992 stock with putting the doors external?

I'd think that the replacement for the 95/6 stock will not be NTfL based, but rather a more conventional 6/7 car design + gangways on account of the Jubilee line's existing PEDs. That is, of course, if LU desire for the Northern line's stock to be identical to the Jubilee's. If not, I'd think it will probably be a retractioned NTfL based set, considering Underground train design has changed very little since 1938.

There's no need to think this, I already posted a quote from a TfL paper that the 27 trains will definitely NOT be NTFL...

Plus there have been changes to car length though, with the 73, 83, 95 and 96 all having longer vehicles, and the NTfL will introduce through carriages and some sort of air cooling system

By 2030 who knows what developments may have happened?

Central, W&C, Bakerloo, and Piccadilly will be receiving the trains. They'll be a mix of lengths, 8 cars on the Central down to 4 on the W&C.

So, they are not going to have one size of train that can operate on all deep-tube lines, like the S stock is for the Sub-surface lines?

What length of trains will there be on the other two lines?

How easy would it be for LU to have 8 car trains on all four of these lines?

I guess there would be issues such as length of turnback tracks at terminus locations and perhaps platform length too.

It's going to be a majority of the deep level lines, all bar the Jubilee, Northern, and Victoria. I think that there is going to be an option on the order which will allow TfL to also replace the Jubilee and Northern fleets as well. Victoria will be out of sync unfortunately.

I understand that it is 7 on the Bakerloo and 6 on the Piccadilly, however the current Piccadilly stock has longer carriages which would mean that a 6 car NTfL would be shorter than it's predecessor. It is possible then that the Piccadilly will get 7 cars with some SDO usage where platforms are too short.

Extending platforms would be difficult in a number of cases, as it'd mean boring out some running tunnels which would probably require extended closures.

I understood that the early plans for the NTfL proposed much shorter cars than current Stock, to allow for articulation - therefore less bogies.

You have inadvertently argued against yourself — S stock is a mix of 7-car and 8-car units!

Basically impossible — extensions would cost more than Crossrail 2 and involve closing lines for long periods, so they're just leaving them as-is and focusing on the new line(s) instead.

I guess there would be issues such as length of turnback tracks at terminus locations and perhaps platform length too.

Bingo. Plus, depot capacity.
