Out of all of the stations managed by Network Rail in central London, only a few of them really need to be managed by network rail, as most of them are only served by a single TOC and could equally be operated by that TOC.

Euston - soon, will only be served by VT.
• Fenchurch Street - only served by C2C
• Liverpool Street - almost only served by "one"
• Paddington - only served by FGW and HX (the latter of which isn't even an ATOC)
• Waterloo - only served by SWT

Dont other TOCs have rights to use these stations though?
Chiltern actually has one train a week to Paddington.
FGW uses Waterloo in an emergency. if you include Waterloo East Its also served by Southeastern and Southern.
C2c uses Liverpool Street

No, what about Silverlink County (soon to be part of WM Franchise) and Metro (soon to become part of Overground), they will still run to Euston

• Fenchurch Street - only served by C2C

I remember this being transferred across the other year and they highlighted it as being beneficial for customers.

Its certainly increased the staffing to allow it to remain open later to reduce the number of services which go into LST

I remember that happening about 18 months or so ago. Gave me a bit of a shock when I was waiting to cross at Egham LC and saw an FGW HST rumble past towards Reading! :D

This has also given me a few ideas for what could be done with the Waterloo Intl terminal once Eurostar vacate it:
  • Departure point for international sleeper services to southern and eastern Europe - Possibly also Asia, Africa and the Middle East,
  • Secondary London terminal for FGW HSTs with a regular service calling at Clapham, Feltham, Reading and points West,
  • Capacity expansion for Waterloo, Victoria (Think of the Nine Elms link) or both,
  • Origin for SWT/FGW HST services between London and West/Mid Wales via Salisbury, Exeter and Bristol,
  • Could allow SWT to run HST services towards Exeter and Penzance, given that their Sprinter fleet can sometimes become quite cramped,
  • Assuming that conversion to third-rail electrification is possible, could be used for express VT Pendolino services towards the south coast and Devon,
  • Replacement for original London Necropolis terminal,
  • With some modification, could be converted to a central London freight terminal.
What is going to be done with Waterloo Intl. as a matter of interest? :)
(You can tell that I really want to see HSTs serving Waterloo on a regular basis, can't ye?:D)

An interesting idea although I imagine they could use St Pancras for this?

Can't see it happening with FGW. Paddington is fine and it would mean longer journey times and the extra space could be used for SWT services when Waterloo goes t*ts up! It's Reading that fGW could do without!

  • Capacity expansion for Waterloo, Victoria (Think of the Nine Elms link) or both,
Would be the ideal situation!

  • Origin for SWT/FGW HST services between London and West/Mid Wales via Salisbury, Exeter and Bristol,
Has been done before with 158s from Waterloo- Manchester via Wales although Wales isn't really deprived as FGW offer a half hourly service to Cardiff and the SWT units needed to do this would decrease capacity on the already busy WoE line.

  • Could allow SWT to run HST services towards Exeter and Penzance, given that their Sprinter fleet can sometimes become quite cramped,
I can't imagine there is enough stock for this to happen!

  • Assuming that conversion to third-rail electrification is possible, could be used for express VT Pendolino services towards the south coast and Devon,
No thanks, the 159s are fine ;) Besides this would only go as far as Exeter and would generally be a waste of money when they diesel units on the line face no problems.

I was thinking more along the lines of converting 390s to being TRE as well as OHLE compatable to allow running to Portsmouth, Southampton and Weymouth - My comments wern't directed at the WoE line!
Getting 370s and 390s running on TRE would certainly change the face of rail travel down this end of the country at any rate! :D

The main reason that I'd like to see some "interesting" rolling stock down here is because all that ye ever see going through Farnborough nowadays is Desiro after Desiro after Desiro, a Sprinter every half hour, and (If you're "lucky") the very occasional 455 and 458! :banghead:

When it came to BR's running of our train system, you lot in the North and West got the better end of the deal. Down here, we're still living in the days of Southern Region...Although they try to hide it with new liveries nowadays! :p
