Neath Station - proposed new integrated transport hub.

I see that a consultation is now taking place regarding having an integrated transport hub at Neath Railway Station. Sounds good to me as the present bus station is not by the railway station.

Neath Port Talbot Council are considering creating a new Integrated Transport Hub in Neath Town Centre to make it easier for everyone to travel by bus and rail.

The new hub will bring together the bus and train stations by relocating the bus station from Victoria Gardens to Neath train station.

This is an enlarged version of where the Western Welsh(latterly South Wales) bus station was until the railway (not train) station was rebuilt in 1977 and for a few years after until the station forecourt was remodelled as a car park. The photograph was taken on 6th January 1973.

Neath station is most definitely overdue an upgrade. Not sure about the bus station moving to the outside of the railway station however. The bus station seems to work very well at Victoria Gardens. A few buses such as the service to Brecon do depart from outside the railway station as well as coaches such as National Express.

The one way system around Neath town Centre makes Victoria Gardens a better location for the bus station. Buses to Cimla for example would need to go all around town and hit even more traffic than they do currently.
