Just a quick question, the power sockets on NX coaches are they fairly reliable or can they be a bit hit and miss.

Newer coaches, reliable. On the whole, they're reliable. However in my experience, though it may be one or two coaches as I tend to travel the one route operated by the one partner operator, there are a few that are broken.

Also noteworthy that on a busy service, you may have to share your socket!

Okay thanks, its just that i might be undertaking a long jounrye on one and it would be very handy to have my phone charger, so that i can watch a movie for instance.

Buy a portable battery pack. So many to choose from, and pretty cheap. Look for brands like Anker or Aukey on Amazon. Then you can charge in a coat pocket or bag at your convenience.

Yes I think that it is about time that I invest in one.

Make sure to get one with a decent output (so it will charge as quickly as possible), so that's 2A or above generally. You can get higher outputs for faster charging of tablets, or new phones like the Nexus 6P (full charge 90 minutes with a 5V/3A charge output).

There's also a fair loss when charging another battery, so don't assume a 10,000mAh battery pack will charge your phone with a 2,500mAh battery four times. It may be nearer half in reality.

Yeah, that's another brand I should have mentioned.

Although 2016 is the year more phones (maybe all new phones released) will be using USB-C, it can also be worth buying a battery pack that has an integrated microUSB (or Lightning for Apple) cable for extra convenience.

Yes, they very much are, as to all intents and purposes they solve the smartphone (lack of) battery issue.

Have been on a couple of NX coaches over the last year which should have had power sockets but for some reason, they had been removed.

I use NX between Gloucester & London quite regular, the power sockets work suitable to charge my phone up in 3 hours, however depends on the coach, Bennetts use 63 plates.
