Edwards now operate the 339 and 502 to North Devon although only two-axle coaches are used on both routes so I can't see deckers being introduced on them.

I seem to remember a driver telling me a few weeks ago that Parks are in the process of buying some new deckers.
We will soon find out I suppose.
It's around the time for them to buy new coaches is it not,some of their Plaxtons are starting to show their age.

There is one 040 in the evening from London Victoria which continues beyond Weston super Mare to Burnham-on-Sea.

I may be missing an obvious point here, but what is it about the deckers that has caused injuries and back problems for Luton drivers, but from which Edwards' drivers are immune?

You're not the only one, I did hear something about luggage problems with double deckers on airport services and I can only assume it's something to do with that?

I've only seen them on the 040, but I have also seen tri-axle Levantes on that service and that was after the Edwards takeover.

Apparently they were becoming overweight too often - if you have 79 people on a coach, and most of them have a large bag, it soon adds up..!

With regards to Luton drivers with back problems. I can assume the problem may be the same as it was with the Deckers when on the 570 service when there were difficulties getting access to the luggage.

A friend taking his driver's CPC did a "Lifting and Handling" module. After being shown how to lift a box on and off a shelf the drivers asked how it was relevant to lifting cases in and out of boots and side lockers. The tutor was unable to provide an answer.

I think the deckers are currently only used on the 040 journeys that operate everyday.

As far as I'm aware the journeys that only operate on friday and sunday don't use deckers.

Luggage has always been the weak spot with double deck coaches. The space over and around the rear wheels is rarely sufficient and is more difficult to access than an underfloor locker amidships. Megabus deckers often tow luggage trailers but these are not practical in nose-in bus stations. The coaches that provide the best trade off between passanger numbers and luggage space are interdeckers such as the Plaxton Elitei and the Van Hool Altano.
